The PAMJ KML repository of African countries

This repository provides district-level kml files of african countries. Our objective is to make available kml files for all countries in Africa. The files were generated from Shape files (*.shp) and may not reflect the current administrative boundaries of the country.
If you have current version of country shape available that you would liketo share, please contact us at resources@panafrican-med-journal.com.
This repository will be updated regularly.

What is kml?

KML stands for Keyhole Markup Language. It is an xml-based language for managing three-dimensional geospatial data in the program Google Earth. It maps the earth by the superimposition of images obtained from satellite imagery, aerial photography and GIS 3D globe. More information on KML and Google earth can be found at Google Earth and Wikipedia.

Google Earth is increasingly positions itself as a complete GIS tool for planning and information visualisation in public health. The examples below show how Google Earth can be used to map case-based and aggregate data.

NB: To view kml files, you most have Google Earth installed. Click here to download the latest version of Google Earth.
